4 slices of bread
1 cūp gràm flōur (also cãlled besan or chikpea flouūr)
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp red chili powder
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp coriander seeds
a pinch of asafoetida (optional)
1/4 cup water
oil for deep-frying
Instructions:
In a bowl, mix together the gram flour, salt, red chili powder, cumin seeds, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, and asafoetida (if using).
Add the water to the mixture, a little at a time, until you have a smooth and thick batter.
Heat the oil in a deep fryer or a deep pan over medium-high heat.
Dip each slice of bread into the batter, coating both sides evenly.
Carefully place the coated bread slices into the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread pakodas are golden brown and crispy.
